Mozilla Thunderbird
Mozilla Thunderbird is a free, comprehensive email and groupware software package that is easy to install and use. It is currently the only email client that fully supports all of the extra features of the SOGo groupware system. Below are instructions for installation, configuration and usage of the desktop client.
Installation Instructions

To begin your installation, click the Thunderbird link to the left. This will initiate a download of the file. Once the file is downloaded, double-click on the file. Follow the prompts accepting all of the default choices until finished. Once complete, you should see a Thunderbird icon on your desktop. You may start Thunderbird by double-clicking this icon. | |

| Linux | We recommend installing Thunderbird using your distribution's package manager. However, for completeness we offer a independent package versions here. Open a terminal and issue the command sudo tar xvjf thunderbird-91.10.0.tar.bz2 as a user with administrative privileges on the system. Once complete, you should have a Thunderbird directory. Inside this directory you will see the Thunderbird executable. You may start Thunderbird by typing ./thunderbird &. |
E-mail Configuration
- After you start the program you will see a dialog box like this one.
- You may begin your account configuration by clicking File then, New, and, finally Existing Mail Account.
- To configure Thunderbird with your e-mail account, simply fill in your Full name, e-mail address, your Host 17 password.
- Check the Remember password box if you don't want to have to type your password each time you start Thunderbird.
- Now click Continue.
- Thunderbird will now automatically configure all of your e-mail server settings for you.
- Click Edit to set your username.
- Simply click Create Account to complete your configuration.
Thunderbird will now open. You can simply click OK when you see this box.
Calendar and Contacts Add-on Installation & Configuration
In order to use the calendar and contact sync features of SOGo, you need to install an Add-on to Thunderbird. The add-on will be auto-configured and must simply be installed before you can begin using Thunderbird. Download the Add-on from the link below.

- After you have downloaded the Add-on, return to the Thunderbird program.
- Click Tools in the menu bar. (Note: If using Linux, click Edit instead.)
- Click on Add-ons in the drop-down menu.
- Click the Extensions tab.
- Click the Configure button near the top of the window.
- Select the Install Add-on from File option.
- Navigate to the SOGo Connector Add-on file you downloaded.
- Note: Your version number may not match the one shown here.
- Click Open
- The Software Installation box will appear next.
- After a few seconds you will see an Install Now button.
- Click the Install Now button.
- After the installation is complete you will see a message asking you to restart Thunderbird.
- Click the Restart Now button to complete the installation.
- After Thunderbird has been restarted, you should see that the add-on is now installed.
- If the add-on is installed properly, you will be presented with a login window.
- Type your password in this box.
- Check the Remember Password box if you don't want to have to type your password each time you start Thunderbird.
- Click OK.
- Your installation is now complete.
